Navigation System

The navigation system is familiar if you have used a Creative player recently, and might be known better as the ZEN Patent. The following screens are meant to show the main features of the Zen V's navigation system, and is not meant to be an exhaustive list of functions.

The player takes about 15 seconds to power up from a "cold" boot. The main menu is shown.

Selecting "Music Library" displays the following screen...

... where you can browse your music library by album, artist name or genre.

In addition, there is the DJ feature that is useful if you have no idea what to listen to.

Select "Albums" from the Music Library...

... and you select it to view the tracks in the album, or just play the whole album.

If there is album art, it will be displayed. Pressing the "Select" button on this screen will show the album art in full-screen.

Although the "Options" button is missing on the Zen V, Creative kept this useful feature, and it can be accessed by holding the "Back" button for a few seconds.

Selecting "View Details"...

Next is the "Photos" menu. Selecting it shows an Explorer-style browser.

Thumbnails are created on-the-fly, that is, when you first browse to the folder. This takes less than a second for each photo. Once the thumbnails have been created, they appear almost instantly the next time you browse to them.

menu_photos2

Selecting a photo displays the photo.

menu_photos3

Colour reproduction was good, and not over-saturated like the Zen Vision:M. Unfortunately, the low-resolution screen shows how lacking it is when it comes to viewing photos.

The options menu provides a few more functions, including zoom, and using the photo as the wallpaper.

Using the "Zoom In" funtion.
