Navigation System (Continued)
The next menu is the "Record".
If the line-in cable is connected, then the M-20 will record line-in, otherwise it activates the built-in microphone and records.

The recording format is ADPCM WAV. Voice is recorded at 32kbps, line-in at 176kbps, and FM radio at 352kbps.
The next menu is "Rec. Play", which has a similar view as "Playlist", except it contains all recorded files only.

Next is "Text View", which is basically displays a text file.

As to why anyone would want to read text files on this small, four-line display is beyond us, as such, we did not bother with it.
Finally we come to the "Settings" menu.

"Sound" lets you configure the EQ, SRS WOW settings and other sound related settings.

There are four EQ presets, two custom presets, and three relating to SRS WOW.

The M-20 comes with SRS, SRS Trubass and SRS WOW. More information is available at the SRS Labs Audio Enhancement page.
The five-band custom EQ is shown below.
And the SRS and WOW settings.

The "Display" setting lets you configure scroll speed, display contrast, screen display time, and ID3 info.

The scroll speeds are all very slow. At the "Normal", the text is basically crawling past the screen. "4x" was a more reasonable setting. "ID3 Set" allows you to choose to display track information from the ID3 tag, or just the file name. This option will be explored further in our battery tests.
The "Timer" setting lets you configure the sleep timer, and idle power off time.

The "Record" setting.

Finally, the "Property" setting.

We found it strange that the "Playmode" setting would be hidden under "Property", and it took a while to get used to navigating to this screen to change the play modes. In fact, it was so inconvenient to change play modes that we just left it at "Shuffle All".
